Nothing wrong with western influence: Sonam Kapoor

While the Indian youth faces criticism for aping the west, young actress Sonam Kapoor says she finds nothing wrong with it as good values are "universal".

"Values are usually universal...good values are universal. The west in not a devil coming to change our minds about certain things. Yes, we have amazing values in India which we should be very proud of. Sonam, considered to be a style icon for the youths, feels India has a great future because of the young population in the country.

"India is predominantly a youthful nation. When you are younger, you are more idealistic and you want to strive for a better future for ourselves. I think we have an amazing future because we are such a young nation," she said..

Sonam's last release was "Players". She is currently working on Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", in which she will be seen with Farhan Akhtar.

Sonam Kapoor gets a Personal invite from Jean Paul Gaultier

Sonam Kapoor has just scored another fashion triumph - a personal invite has landed for her from top-notch French designer Jean Paul Gaultier - for his show on January 25.

Sonam made her impressive style debut at the Cannes International Film Festival last year in a Gaultier gown.

More recently Sonam was seen in a drop-shoulder corset gown by Gaultier at the Dubai premiere of her action flick Players.

The actress tweeted in the morning: "Packing for Paris."

According to reports, she has also been invited for an exclusive dinner with Lebanese designer Elie Saab and for his show.

Sonam is being dubbed as a fashion icon for the youth but the Players actress feels the tag comes with a lot of responsibilities.

"It's only been four years since I have been in the industry, and if in such a short time someone calls you iconic, it is scary and overwhelming," the 26-year-old actress said.

Sonam is currently busy shooting for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Rajkumar Santoshi's untitled film.

Prachi Badve A Twelve-year-old has designs on Kareena

If four-year-olds can turn catwalk queens, then who says a pre-teen can’t design an entire clothing line? Twelve-year-old Prachi Badve, who first raised eyebrows by participating at the Pune Fashion Week at the age of nine, made her Mumbai debut at the recently-concluded India Kids Fashion Week.

“Teachers would complain that her grades were dropping because her notebooks were filled with sketches of dresses,” mom Pooja recalls.

The family finances Prachi’s collections, shelling out huge participation fees for the various fashion weeks. “We were worried about spending that kind of money on such a young child, but I reasoned that if she wanted to be a doctor, we would have invested about Rs 50 lakh in her education anyway,” says Pooja.

And if you thought that she was all talent, no technique, Prachi has already completed a diploma course in fashion designing at the Vidyanchal Institute in her native Pune. “After my first fashion week, there were lots of offers to study at various institutes. The schedule here matched my school timings, so I chose this,” she explains.

But the pre-teen, who wants to be the “most established designer in the world and dress Kareena Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan one day”, snaps at any question of her parents’ involvement. “I don’t know why people keep asking whether my parents are forcing me to do this, or if my mother designs the clothes and I take credit. No one in my family is involved in fashion,” she protests.

Her mother adds, “All 65 garments that she’s designed so far are lying in my house. I don’t want people to think I’m using my daughter to set up a business. I’m just helping build her brand. Once she’s old enough, she can turn professional.”

Coco Rocha for Longchamp Spring 2012 Campaign

Coco Rocha stars in the new Longchamp spring 2012 campaign alongside model Liisa Winkler and professional dancer Alexia Level. Fresh, funny and dynamic, the French house's campaign is the perfect expression of the Longchamp spirit.

The latest Longchamp spring 2012 campaign, starring Canadian models Coco Rocha and Liisa Winkler, is energetic, fun and fresh. "We really wanted to show this woman very active in the city, very dynamic," said Sophie Delafontaine, the house's creative director. Captured by Dane Shitagi in Manhattan and Dumbo, the campaign follows the girls while running and dancing in the streets. Both models have dance backgrounds and are joined in the Longchamp campaign by professional dancer Alexia Level. The choreography was made by Blanca Li who said that they tried to make a fresh and original movie.
Coco Rocha wrote on her blog that, "I had so much fun with this dog, and yes, he was literally pulling me in every direction – that’s not acting!"

Indeed, the new Longchamp campaign is extremely refreshing and cheerful. The Longchamp woman becomes playful and is not afraid to take chances chasing after dogs and hopping over police barricades. "The Longchamp woman is free, independent and plays with fashion. An active woman, full of energy, contemporary. Cosmopolitan, she looks for enjoyment while remaining chic, elegant and fashionable," Sophie Delafontaine said.

The brand's spring 2012 handbag collection features numerous designs from casual and functional to a timeless, glamorous and elegant style. Longchamp brings lots of stylish goodies such as a new interpretation of a modern Amazon, a contemporary embodiment of the legendary warriors, in an exquisite line of saddlery-inspired bull-calf leather accessories, but also the famous Légende bags inspired by former doctor’s bags with their structured form, which is the collection’s signature. The brand also adopts an exotic theme with a discreet graphic design for an incredibly on-trend result.

The legendary house branched out from its handbag mainstays and ventured into ready-to-wear, footwear and other accessories. "The Longchamp brand is expanding on an international scale, needing to cope with this continuous movement as it always did with its collections, collaborations and more recently with its ready-to-wear line. The choice of the 'creative movement' concept perfectly answers to Longchamp's identity," said Marie-Sabine Leclercq, head of global communications at Longchamp.
